See where I described the exercise reflecting on the best thing that happened this day, and re-experience the sensations of that experience. Do this exercise daily and in the end of the 30 days you experience deeper and fuller sensory awareness of your life, that many people call being alive.
Today is Day 5.
I love split pea soup. Mark made it for us this morning. The cold weather affected my sinuses, and hot soup is a tremendous pleasure. I feel my mouth engulfing the rich warmth of the liquid and the colorful taste of the soup. As I swallow the textured aromatic liquid, the warmth follows down into my throat and further down to my stomach. There the sensation dissipates. After a short pause, again, I taste the liquid, with my tongue, and I feel the warmth of it with the inside of my mouth. I slowly swallow the soup and follow it with my attention down the esophagus tube and into my stomach. The process repeats very quickly yet slowly, as the time slows with each sensation. Each warm swallow of the soup feels differently from the one before, as the richness of the flavor unfolds, it becomes more and more tasty, as I rediscover the taste of the soup in my mouth. The warmth of the liquid cools, yet still very warm, each spoonful is embraced with desire. Feeling the liquid inspire my taste buds, I salivate in anticipation of the next spoon of my favorite soup. As it comes, I bless the warmth in my mouth and further down all the way into my stomach where the richness finally meets the satisfaction. At some point I discover that the sensation on my stomach is fullness and satisfaction, yet my mouth continues to crave the food. I stop for a moment to experience the moment of pleasure in my stomach and then take the last spoonful of soup into my mouth. the warmth is now much cooler. I let it slide down my throat. I feel my shoulders and legs relax, and my eyes close with pleasure. I smile. I feel the tingle in my stomach, and the pleasant fullness of satisfaction. Enough. Yet keep the feeling of satisfaction coming. Relaxing the back. Deep breath. Relaxing the abdomen. Rest in pleasure now.
